I felt that our section was no longer united like the past... Our hearts are drifting alway, wheres all your passion in band.... in playing your trumpet... ALl of you had been slagging so much... what i can say is the section are too weak... weak in both musically and also the spirit... Come on wake up lah... the concert is just around the corner... and the test too... Those who don't practice ur scales and etudes should be slap... not by me but yourself... A good foundation is the key to success... this phrase talks about everything ... You don't have yours scales and etude, you won't go far... We keep boasting that we are so united so good in playing... all that are just craps...

Offstage trumpet solo (measures 118-127) This is the emotional heart of the work. The offstage solo should sound quite distant and ethereal, even other-worldly. I have found it insufficient to merely place the soloist backstage with the stage doors open. The sound is still too "present" in this configuration.   Perhaps the most ideal situation would be to place the soloist offstage with all stage doors closed, and furnished with a television monitor connected to a camera that is focused directly on the conductor.   It is also possible to position the soloist behind the audience in a lobby or distant balcony. At the premiere performance, we found that merely placing the soloist in the top balcony did not produce the desired distant effect. We solved the problem by placing the soloist in the lobby behind the balcony (with the doors partially open so the soloist could see the conductor onstage).   Measures 118 and 119 are unmetered. That is, the conductor should not attempt to conduct the individual beats of the offstage solo. Rather, his or her job here is to serve as a cue-giver, conducting the downbeats of each bar. (The downbeat of measure 118 marks the release of the whole notes held in measure 117. The downbeat of measure 119 marks the release of clarinet 1, and the entrance of flute 1 and clarinet 3.) The conductor returns to regular metered time in measure 120.   I suggest that someone sit in the middle of the audience section to check the balance between the offstage soloist and the onstage players.

Hi all!

Here are some urls which you all might be interested to browse through.

http://www.sistic.com/SOPApp/SOPPortal/portal_proxy?uri=4bYV7!C4Brd1J.tOGowA7oqIf0=IF5vAgsJFM : Website for the NTU Symphonic Band Music from the Hearts 2004 at Esplanade Concert Hall on 31st Jul. Pls confirm the total no. of tix you all getting and let me know as soon as possible k? subsidise from me is max S$8 each k? alot of you leh.. i'll go broke!! I reserved the tickets already.. best seats i can get...

www.philharmonicwinds.org : The band which mr lim, loo kit and me are playing in. Can go there and take a look.. quite a nice website..

www.windworks.com.sg : Wind instrument repair & servicing (managed by 2 very creative and wonderful instrument repair technician friends of mine)

www.mast-music.com : A very good and informative website! this music shop is located at park lane (somewhere near dhoby gaut and selegie). they have alot of good stuff there.. i bought my trumpet soft case from there. you can find a link to the varieties of trumpet cases there.. however the ones there are pretty expensive (cheapest is $60++). you can always call them up and see if there have any cheaper alternatives or not. let me know if you all decide on any models. i might be able to help u all get discount if u all getting in bulk coz the shop is owned by my friends. oh.. they also have a very good range of mouthpieces listed inside.. as i told you, i'll recommend the vincent bach mouthpieces. listed price is $62.42. as usual, i can help u all get discounts.

www.accent.com.sg: thie shop is located at bukit timah. there is a link to a map in the website to give u directions to their showroom. this is the store which promised me to give u all discounts of 10% for mouthpieces. so will cost u bout $60. when i went to their shop bout 2 weeks ago, i saw them displaying this trumpet stand selling for $15 or $12. Can't really remember.. as usual, u can give them a call and check out the prices if you're interested. as for trumpet bags, can ask them what models and how much they selling for too..

mast-music and accent music are the 2 shops which i go often. the pple there are very knowledgeable and helpful.

www.sweelee.com.sg : this music shop has also been around for a very long time.. but i haven't been there in a very long time.... not sure what are the things they sell there like now.. the website shows alot of guitar and percussion stuff.. but they actually sell band stuff there too.. you all can go to the bras basah branch.. more accessible i think..

Really glad to see that you all are so interested in improving yourself and getting accessories like mouthpieces and stands etc.. hope you all will put your enthusiasm into playing your instrument well too k? remember, looking good with trumpet bags or trumpet stands does not make you a good player.. you must practise hard and always strive hard to play well k??

"There is never perfection.. Only more room for improvement." This was what my senior said to me when I was in sec 1. So i hope you all can understand this statement k?

If you have any comments, questions, complains or grumbles, feel free to email me.. I'll be most glad to offer any help to you!

Take care.... study hard and practise hard!!! :)

Thank you Yonglin and Fitri for being such a great senior. We will miss your laughter, jokes and smile.
We'll miss Fitri's jokes..
Yonglin's sarcasm...
Fitri's smile...
Yonglin's crap..
Fitri's kick ass attitude..
Yonglin's concern..
Fitri's fart..
Yonglin's vulgarities..
And everything..

We really want you both to know that you all have done so much for the section and we will never regret having such a great and nice seniors like you two.Hope you both feel the same too.Do come back some time and all the best for your o levels!Three cheers for trumpets!

It's hard to say goodbye
To great seniors like you too
For the love we felt was very strong
And the great deeds you all do.

It's time to let the past move on
but keep the moments that we treasured
Of all those times we enjoyed ourselves
That brought us together

For all the memories that we made
will remain contained inside
And they'll be there for many years
To allow us to look back with pride

So move on now, don't look back
And cherish those times we had
No regrets! Just loving thoughts
and please dont be sad

You will always remain inside our heart
A special place for you two
And we would hope the same for us
A place in your heart too

ok.. to add on. i apologise to asmah that the instruction she gave was not done. sorry for that, though i know that its like kinda useless to say it now. ya.. i feel guitly lah.. okie. im not gonna say wat happened lah.. we should have seriously practised for both musical night performance and the upcoming test but we didnt. we played and dun really give a damn about it. nice formation lah but thats not wat the band is wanting though. and ya.. i admit that i wasnt serious when clare wanted to conduct "what a wonderful world", the boys dunno did their things and me and jiaxing were not serious. sorry clare for that. ya.. we did our own things.. clare and jiaxing practised.. i tried to memorise etude 1,2,3 but unfortunately cannot. everyone did their things.. to say, i really got very fed up so i went to the AVA rm where the percussion were playing too. i joined in the fun by laughing also. and by the way

yonglin: u are a good senior, though u tink u may not be one. u thought us well, though it may have been boring and sorry for the sickening attitude we have given to you. you have been patient with us, especially me i think. i really got moodswing then will anyhow blame ppl.. sorry for that.. dun see small or wat hor. treat mi like anyone else in the setion okie. sorry for wat i've said "ur sectionals were boring and stuffs like this" though it has really sadden ur day.. i hope i can change bout my straightforwardness too.. since u all not used to it. thanks for wat u've taught us. useful but chim lah. stop thinking negatively. who the hack said it was totally ur fault or whatsoever? remember. all for one, one for all. wanna blame blame it as a section. can? though it may sound like dunno wat.. just ya lah.. be optimistic and cheer up! =D

asmah: perfect eyesight u got man asmah.. SIGNET. woaah. ok whatever. just wanna ad that asmah has really helped trumpante. i bet u all can see it too also right? she has thought of fund raising, section tees and ways to try to make our section the best one in the band. though it may be true that some horn-y people are trying to copy wat we did.. *ahem* ya ok not blaming them. we'll still be the united one. wahaha. and dun make asmah sad can.. i admit i got lah.. trying not to already. wat happened last saturday was OVER. we're gonna get it from mr lim. as a section! i hope. thanks for ur hard work.

i sencerly [watever it is spelt as] apologise to yonglin, asmah and clare on behalf of the section. sorry. hope we get this in mind "one for all all for one" too.

Fellow trumpeters... i m so sorry about sat... i nv control u all well and i actually play wif u all too... after mr lim's advice ... i really got no cheek to sae i m a leader anymore... veri sorry... if u all fail the test i m the one responsible... being the most senior member .. i dun even have the maturity to think... mayb i m just not one who can be a good leader ... and one who get others in trouble... i m really sorry... and i feel so ashame with wad i do... I m thinking of not performing for the musical cos i dun deserve to perform... hope that all of u wun follow my foot step...

I think what we all did last Saturday is not good. We're suppose to have sectionals and what did you all do?? I ask you all one question.Do you all want to pass the test?Or fail? I'm sure u all know what i mean. The etudes must be memorised.Hey Jude memorised.Scales.And the theory notes i'm giving out soo. Our music standard is not good. Its bad lah..So you all should know what u all should do.Coorperate and Wake upp!About the fund raising thing, im not so sure if we are allowed to do it since there is many other's stuffs not done yet.Its still under consideration aite?I tell you all something funny. That time i complained that the design cannot be sent rite? You wanna know why...COZ i dunno how to spell singnet!!!!Hahahahahhaa i spelt it as "signet" How stupid!!And i nearly want to bash my computer up.Haha.So yeah. It'll be done at the end of this month.Dont forget that crucial test. For yonglin and Eric who just settled their conflict,i got a quote to share "Conflict is inevitable in a team ... in fact, to achieve synergistic solutions, a variety of ideas and approaches are needed. These are the ingredients for conflict".Love you all!!=D

ABOUT THE BAND

First started in the year 1982 when the school just move to the new campus at jalan tenaga at that time the strength in the section is 7 the conductor at that time is Mr Samad, at that time the section only learn very few songs for example One Moment In Time,The Peaks of Otter,Yellow Stone,Wildwood overture.WE participated in the school musical by playing 2 songs One Moment in Time and Dawn Chorus Overture. In year 2001, we changed due to the change of principal. Our condutor at that time was the late Mr Hashim, after he took over the band, the band was changed into a military band, the section had a strength of only 4 members and we were given a chance to participate in the Chingay2002. A few sad things happened in 2002. In 2003-2004 we are lucky to have Mr Lim Yean Hwee as our conductor, he again changed the band into a symphonic band. Under his baton, the band improved tremendously & of course the section improved too.In the year 2003, trumpet section have a strength of 7 and by 2004, 11.We learned many Pieces within these 2 yrs and participated in many of the schools event and public performances. We had a FIRST combine school concert at NYP in the year 2002 and a charity concert in 2004.The band had our very FIRST own concert in VCH on 3rd Dec 2004. On the April 13th 2005, our first time participating in SYF, we managed to clinch a gold. Followingly, another Gold award for SYF in 2007. *
